DIVISION V GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Another banner year for Tri-City Christian

SPECIAL TO THE UNION-TRIBUNE

November 23, 2008

One team was aiming for its third straight San Diego Section Division V girls volleyball title. The other was the first team from its school to reach a section final – in any sport.

The result?

Not surprising.

Tri-City Christian completed its three-peat last night at Cathedral Catholic High, beating San Diego Jewish 25-8, 25-11, 25-12.

“We've been working hard for this,” Tri-City Christian coach Kristen Wright said. “We have a good and talented team.”

The Eagles had 10 returners from last year.

“Experience breeds confidence and confidence breeds success,” Wright said.

Tri-City Christian's future looks bright as freshman outside hitter Joy Reinke led the Eagles with eight kills. Senior Taylor Mehl had a match-high 11 assists, and sophomore Marissa Smith was tops with eight digs.

Both teams will be among the champions and runners-up from the San Diego Section competing this week in the state tournament.
