The junior QB-DB helped the Lancers (9-1) clinch the Coastal League title with a 45-21 win over Christian. Randall rushed for 158 yards and five TDs on 18 carries and completed 7-of-12 passes for 86 yards. He made nine tackles on defense.




Tanya Valenzuela
Cross country
Hilltop

Valenzuela dominated the Mesa League and South Bay League runners in the Metro Conference finals. The Lancers senior finished in 15 minutes, 41 seconds – 26 seconds faster than the next runner on the 2.5-mile Rohr Park course.




Jacob Roach
Cross country
Otay Ranch

In leading the Mustangs to a Mesa League team title, Roach won his second consecutive individual championship. The junior ran the 3.1-mile Rohr Park course in 16:13, defeating the second-place runner by 13 seconds.




Collin Jones
Football
El Camino

The junior quarterback was 8-of-14 for 174 yards and a score as El Camino upset Carlsbad to earn a berth in the playoffs. It was a season high for Jones for yards and completion percentage. The Wildcats have won three of four games with Jones at quarterback.




Mariah Horvath
Volleyball
Poway

With a pair of victories, the Titans advanced to the Division I semifinals behind Horvath. After the team's win over Rancho Bernardo, the junior middle blocker came on against Rancho Buena Vista, collecting five blocks and 14 kills.




Mike Head
Football
Ramona

The senior excelled for the Bulldogs on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He caught five passes for 126 yards and a touchdown and contributed nine tackles and an interception to help Ramona tie previously No. 1 Oceanside 33-33.


High school Athletes of the Week are awarded through a partnership between the Union-Tribune and the San Diego Hall of Champions.
