The Board of Managers for the California Interscholastic Federation's San Diego Section has accepted explanations from Poway High about concerns involving its baseball program.
“The Board of Managers accepted what we did as a school to rectify the situation, and they're satisfied,” Poway Athletic Director Dan Crane said.
In a letter to the section, Poway addressed concerns raised by the section about alleged undue influence in recruiting transfers, private lessons taught on school grounds by coaches and other issues.
Poway officials previously said there had been pre-enrollment contact between assistant coaches and transfer players through coaches' private baseball businesses, but that players were not recruited to Poway. They also found “at least one instance” in which a coach had used school grounds for private tutoring of a player.
Using school facilities in a profit venture is against district rules without meeting insurance requirements and filing the necessary paperwork. The letter said it addressed the issue with the coaching staff in August.
Poway (31-6) won its second section title in three years in the spring, defeating La Costa Canyon in the Division I championship game.
