While the rest of his team prepared to play Arizona State, San Diego State basketball standout Lorrenzo Wade spent part of yesterday afternoon in Superior Court, where his preliminary hearing was postponed to Dec. 3.
The prosecutor handling the case was working on another trial and could not attend yesterday's scheduled hearing, leading to the rescheduling. As a result, Wade and co-defendant Brian Ware yesterday both agreed to waive their right to a speedy preliminary hearing in order to accommodate the new date.
The delay might not help Wade's chances of returning to the Aztecs any time soon. But indications are that the fingerprint analysis in the case does not implicate Wade – a development that could improve his chances of having his felony burglary charge reduced to a misdemeanor. Wade has been suspended indefinitely, pending the outcome of the case.
Wade and Ware each face a felony burglary charge stemming from an incident near SDSU Sept. 21. Police say they entered a woman's apartment around 3 a.m. that day, with Ware taking her flat-screen television from the apartment.
