Search continues for Calif. reps' missing brother

ASSOCIATED PRESS

5:08 p.m. October 4, 2008

LOS ANGELES – Divers continue searching the water five miles south of Los Angeles harbor for debris from a boat believed to have belonged to the missing brother of Congress members Loretta and Linda Sanchez.

Coast Guard Ensign Stephanie Young says crews on Saturday are using a remotely operated vehicle to search the bottom of the ocean floor for debris possibly resulting from a collision between a boat and a barge.

A passing boater reported seeing a debris field in the ocean Thursday. The Sanchez sisters say the debris contained fragments from a boat that carried Henry Sanchez and his girlfriend, Penny Avila.

The couple was heading to Santa Catalina Island but never arrived.

Young says investigators have not found new pieces of debris Saturday.
