Man wanted for teen's death found in Mexico

LOS ANGELES – A man wanted for the shooting death of a high school student 17 years ago in Los Angeles has been arrested in Mexico.

Authorities say Rodolfo Gallegos was apprehended Thursday and is awaiting extradition proceedings to return him to Los Angeles County for trial.

An arrest warrant issued in 2006 charged Gallegos with the murder of Kenneth Caldera, a 16-year-old Burbank Union High School student. The warrant also included four counts of attempted murder.

The district attorney's office says Caldera and some friends were driving home from a party on Aug. 24, 1991, when a car pulled up beside them and Gallegos allegedly fired inside. Two of the other four teens in the car were struck by gunfire but survived.

Authorities say Gallegos, who was 16 at the time, allegedly mistook the group for rival gang members.
