RIVERSIDE – A motorist who died when a vehicle went off Van Buren Boulevard and into the Santa Ana River channel was identified by the coroner Sunday.
Manuel Barrios Carrillo, 35, of Rubidoux suffered fatal injuries late Friday when a vehicle left Van Buren Boulevard, vaulted through a stand of trees, and landed in the Santa Ana River channel, according to Riverside police and the coroner.
The wreck occurred sometime about 11 p.m. Friday on Van Buren south of Clay Street, on the north side of the river channel, according to Riverside police Sgt. Dwayne May and police spokesman Steven Frasher.
The male driver was thrown from the vehicle and died at the crash scene, May said. The surviving passenger had minor injuries and was able to walk out to call for help.
