MURRIETA – Murrieta officials will hold a public forum Monday night to discuss ideas for spending $400,000 in federal grant money coming to the city's coffers.
The forum will be held at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 24601 Jefferson Ave.
The city should receive the Community Development Block Grant funds by July. Of that $400,000, city officials can allocate $60,000 for service projects.
Nonprofit groups and such entities as boys and girls clubs, senior service groups and food banks can apply for funding. Applications are due no later than Oct. 16.
To be eligible, a project must primarily benefit targeted groups or contribute to eliminating slums or blight, according to Nancy Driggers with the city of Murrieta.
“Targeted groups are lower-income people in particular, but also include the elderly, handicapped adults, the homeless and victims of domestic abuse," Driggers said.
